Our mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Troop 414 is a relatively new Boy Scout Troop, having been established in 2002 with a single patrol of six young scouts. We have grown steadily and now have over 40 active scouts, and over 10 active adult leaders. Troop 414 is an outdoors troop. We try to have an outdoor event every month, and meet 11 months out of the year. We camp at many different locations, since we are located in an area that has many wonderful opportunities. Troop 414 has a track record of producing boys of character. Our troop focuses on: • Values, Service and Character Development • Outdoor Adventure and Personal Fitness • Skills Training and Advancement • Camping in the gulf coast area and regions beyond Boys who are 11 years old, or who are 10 years old and have finished 5th grade or received the Webelos Arrow of Light award, and are not yet 18, are eligible to join. All boys are welcomed. The Troop goes on frequent outings. The adventure for boys includes camping, canoeing/kayaking, hiking, mountain climbing, marksmanship, pioneering and orienteering, historic and civic field trips, swimming, sports & much more. The Troop attends Summer camp for one week. Troop 414 also emphasizes service to the community. Troop 414 is guided by trained adult volunteers and experienced Scouters, including an experienced Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters and a Troop Committee. For more information, contact Scoutmaster Chris Speasmaker at 713-436-6556 or cspeasmaker@comcast.net We are also looking for Adult Volunteers! Troop 414 has many trained adult volunteers, including a Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters, and a strong Troop Committee, but we are still looking for a few more good leaders to help guide and train these Boy Scouts. No previous scouting experience is needed, we will provide training; you provide the enthusiasm and encouragement. Merit Badge counselors are welcome in any interest area.
